“Cannabis is the key to unlocking preventative medicine,” “It helps protect your DNA from damage so it can actually slow down the aging process. I think everyone should use cannabis oil, you should learn about it, you shouldn’t be afraid.”
— Dr. Michele Ross is a Neuroscientist and a former drug researcher for the National Institute on Drug Abuse
I've found several articles, including one by Time magazine, suggesting cannabis slows the aging process. The United States health and Human Services patent on Cannabinoids as antioxidants and neuroprotectants itself states:
"This new found property makes cannabinoids useful in the treatment and prophylaxis of wide variety of oxidation associated diseases, such as ischemic, age-related, inflammatory and autoimmune diseases." Emphasis mine.
The wise use of cannabis in combination with other longevity enhancing practices such as optimal lifestyle and diet should result in longer lifepsans. Dan Buettner's Blue Zones project promises an added 10 years to one's lifespan for following the dietary and lifestyle practices of the people who live the longest he documents in his books, videos and websites. When I say wise use, I mean using the high CBD strains of cannabis raw as juice and smoothies or using the THC strains in the same way so as not to cause intoxication. Using in this way should add more years to one's life I believe.
In the article Marijuana slows brain degradation and aging, reverses dementia, the author, Mary Wilder, points out the use of cannabis to slow aging and reverse neurodegenerative conditions and why the public is being thwarted in making widescale use of cannabis. She says:
The pharmaceutical industry has thousands of government officials by the throat as they are funded heavily by them. Since Big Pharma has lots to lose financially if marijuana were ever to be legalized, the Feds continue to do everything in their power to ensure that it stays criminalized. As disgusting as it is, the well-being of the American people is not their concern; they only care about making more money for themselves.
What I get from this video of Dr. Bob Melamede, is that our body is specially designed to utilize the cannabinoids in cannabis to regulate many bodily functions. And the more we use cannabis we become more adaptable and are able to reverse age-related diseases. It's interesting to note that his friend was able keep high blood pressure in check with cannabis.
In this video the discussion is about how cannabinoids from cannabis regulate the endocannabinoid system and how cannabis protects against free radicals that damage the body's cells over time causing aging. Dr. Melamede describes how cannabinoids can reduce stress and depression which contribute substantially to many diseases of the body. At 15:11 to 15:17 into the video, Dr. Melamede calls cannabis an anti-aging drug.
The ultimate longevity practice might just be keeping the Sabbath regularly with family and friends, eating a stringent diet such as a vegetarian or vegan diet like the 7th Day Adventists of Loma Linda (see video below), and including a diet of the high CBD, low THC strains of cannabis in its raw form. What religious/spiritual practices best guide your lifestyle choices such as dietary habits, your use of cannabis, and how you deal with people and stress is what a person really needs to look at carefully when choosing a religion.
